Rural By Choice
If those words ring true to you, know you’re not alone. The PowerUp Movement strives to unite and empower across the state of Kansas - know that as you feel stronger - Kansas does too!
The power of accepting change
It is a beautiful thing to feel convicted in being rural by choice, to know that of all the options, you made the right choice. Sometimes a PowerUp can do all the right things and still feel as though they are not in the right place.
The power of intergenerational friendships
Sometimes making friends in a rural community is a numbers game, especially when the focus is on finding people with similar interests or around your age.
The power of fun
One of the values of the Kansas Sampler Foundation is that fun is motivating.
The power of history and tradition
One of the core values of the PowerUp Movement is to appreciate history. When we respect the builders of the community and the values and virtues of the place we live, we can develop pride in our place.
The power of a third place
The term third place is often used to refer to somewhere we frequent that’s not home nor work, where people feel connected to a community or shared interest and can show up with little to no obligation.
The power of a parent
It’s remarkable how a child observing their parent loving where they live or what they do can positively impact the ties to a community.
The power of an invitation
It’s scary to walk into a place alone. It’s also scary that you might be rejected if you ask someone new to come along. And yet sometimes an invitation is all that someone has been waiting for to be seen or included.
The power of answering a question
When we’ve spent most of our lives in a certain community, it’s easy to take for granted the way things work.
The power of exploring
Take yourself, your friend, or your family on a date in your town. Whether you’re a newcomer, a homecomer, or have lived there for 30 years, get curious and have fun where you call home.
Rural by Choice. There’s a lot of power in those words.
Rural.
Do you live in a community with only one grocery store or a place where the owners of the one gas station still come out to pump your gas?
You are welcome.
More than anything, people want to feel welcomed into a community, a club, a school. Welcome to the PowerUp Movement; you are welcome here.
